In 2017, the Chechnyan leader Ramzan Kadyrov set up a coordinated action to identify and exterminate LGBTQI+ people in the Republic of Chechnya, with the support of the Russian government. Disappearances, crimes, torture,... the cleansing still continues to this day under the nose of a powerless international community. Welcome to Chechnya tells the raw and emotionally draining story of Russian activists organising to either get victims out of the country or hide them in a safe place and offering help and protection at the risk of their own lives. More than just a testimony, this film aims to be the voice of the victims and the activists that supported them, of their fight for survival despite the fear and a strong sense of abandonment.

The screening will be followed by a debate with organisations and specialists, and among them distinguished professor Françoise Tulkens from the faculty of law and criminology of UCL, who is also a former judge from the European Court of Human Rights.
